A mini documentary made for Jason Marquez, a Las Vegas performer who built his name impersonating Elvis, but that is the on ramp, not the destination. What he really wants is to be a singer. This film is about the man behind the persona.
The concept
Jason is a close connection we had worked with before, and he reached out needing a video to play at an album release event. The original ask was loose: he was doing a mock wedding shoot, and we could come grab whatever content we wanted as long as we shared it for his release. The plan shifted a dozen times, but the core was always: he is getting photos for the album, and he wanted footage of the day too. We do plenty of commercials and events, but we take the odd jobs that come our way, and this was one.
The production
We started at Tivoli Village (southwest Las Vegas and Summerlin), moved to a park about ten minutes out, then down near Fremont for the mock wedding. And at the end of the day, all we had was footage. Good footage, but footage. At STUDiiO, clips stacked together are not a story, they are background. We did not want to make something that plays in the background. So we went back to Jason and told him straight: we love what we have got, but it is not a story yet, let us tie it together into something your audience will actually feel and remember.
We set up a sit down interview to build the real spine of the film. Through Jason we connected with a friend who owns Say I Do Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas (weddings and elopements), and used their front lobby as the interview space. Jason wanted to shine some light on their spot, so it worked both ways. Sitting him down let us tie everything together: how he feels about his family, his friends, and the people who have supported him, and it gave him a moment to spotlight the people who were there for him. You could see their faces light up when they heard it.
The post
We cut it and played it at the event, and the room lit up. The second it ended, people started singing his songs and rolling into the whole album. Jason told us it brought him to tears. That is the moment we are always after: visuals and story locked together tightly enough to hit someone in the heart, not just the eyes. When a film moves a person like that, we know we did our job, we reached the place that actually matters.
